LARRY SCHUH

Larry Schuh presently instructs at McNeese State University. He directs students in drawing, printmaking, and electronic imaging (Photoshop, AfterEffects).

Schuh's drawings and prints have been exhibited nationally with the most recent invitation to ColorPrint, USA. Other exhibits include: The Boston Printmakers North American Print Exhibition, Florida Printmakers Society, The Print Club, The Printmaking Council of New Jersey and the International Graphic Arts Foundation.

Monotype has been a strong force in Schuh's artwork. Degas' landscapes and figurative work have recently been an influential element.

"Screenprinting continues to be one of my chosen applications of printmaking.  Most of the printing I do now is with non-toxic or water base inks.  I feel that my images have not been compromised and I still enjoy the process.  Part of this transition is due potential health risks and the need to change because of classroom usage.

My students absolutely love and crave screenprinting.  Why?  Despite its bad reputation of being overly process oriented, screenprinting can be one of the most spontaneous and gratifying experiences.  I love seeing the color change right after the overlay of a flat or half tone.

Back in 1972 through 1977, The University of South Dakota and its faculty and students were so influential.  That is where my love for the medium was nurtured.  The printmaking workshops and visiting artists at USD made an impression on this certain artist.  I would like to thank the University of South Dakota, its faculty, especially Lloyd Menard, and my peers.
