"From my first print of over forty years ago I knew that I loved the process and the mystery of printmaking. Over the past forty years my prints have been influenced by so many other artists. As a young university teacher I wanted to know as much as possible about the different types of prints, how they were made, and the artists who made them. I became a student over and over again, learning from the many great, established printmakers I brought to the University of South Dakota. Although I have been influenced by many, I know that after more than thirty years of teaching that my prints are totally my own.

My art has been covered with decorative elements since childhood. Over the past twenty years, I have concentrated on large-scale paper pieces. As you can tell, color is very important to me and design and abstraction are a part of my soul. Scale and experimentation with my large color pieces keep my mind working on solving mysteries. My work also makes me feel like an inventor and innovator of experimental prints.

About a year ago I started my first traditional color intaglio print in almost fifteen years and realized how much I truly missed it. The intaglios help me to express my most intimate stories. These prints allow me to express myself using symbols that are personal to me and not always obvious to the viewer. My intaglios also incorporate code that the viewer must decipher to determine veiled messages."
